Good to Know

Questions about Namoye

What are the ways to study abroad?

Common options include an exchange or term abroad through your own Canadian university or college, a full degree at an institution in another country, a language program, and a short summer or winter program. The right one depends on your goals and your budget.

Can anyone guarantee that I will get a visa?

No. Visa decisions are made by the destination country's government. Be wary of any adviser who guarantees one. Check official government sources for what applies to you, and see the Government of Canada's travel advice for your destination.

How much does studying abroad cost?

It varies by country, institution and length of stay, and exchange rates matter. Namoye doesn't set prices. Ask for a written breakdown covering tuition, living costs, travel, insurance, visa fees and any adviser fees.

Can I use Canadian student loans or other funding?

It depends on the program. If you are studying abroad as part of a program at a Canadian institution, your student aid may continue, so ask your school's study abroad office. For a full degree at some overseas institutions, Canada Student Loans may be available if the school is on the designated list, so check before you commit. Ask about scholarships and other funding too.

Will my credits or degree be recognized?

If you are enrolled at a Canadian institution, ask your school before you go, and get approval for the courses in writing. If you are moving to a degree abroad, ask how the institution would recognize your earlier study, and whether the degree will be recognized where you plan to work later, including by Canadian regulators if you plan to return.

How do advisers and agents get paid?

Some are paid by institutions, some by students and some by both. Ask how the person is paid, whether you will be charged a fee, and whether they work with many institutions or only a few.

What about health insurance and safety?

Your provincial health plan covers little or nothing outside Canada, and some provinces limit coverage if you are away for long periods. Ask what health cover you will need in the destination country, what the institution provides, and consider travel or student insurance. Register with the Government of Canada's travel registration service.

What if I need to change plans or get a refund?

Ask each institution and adviser for the refund and withdrawal terms in writing before you pay, including what happens if your visa is refused. Check what any travel insurance covers.

What should I have ready?

Where you are thinking of studying, what you want to study, your qualifications so far, and your postal code. If you don't have everything, send the request anyway.

Is Namoye an education agency?

No. Namoye is a free matching service. It doesn't place students, advise on visas or guarantee admission. Any advice or offer comes from the professional who contacts you.

Will several advisers call me, and does it cost anything?

No to both. A verified professional contacts you, and Namoye is free for you.
